Overview

Lumbini is located in Lumbini Pardesh in the Rupandehi district in the southern Terai belt. It is spread over approximately 4.3 km and the holy premise signifies the history of Lord Buddha. The UNESCO enlisted the Lumbini as a world heritage site due to its historical and cultural importance in both Hindu and Buddhist communities. Most people of the Buddhist religion visit here for divinity although it is open to all religious people. Famous as the birthplace of Lord Buddha Lumbini is sacred and is conserved and protected by Lumbini Development Trust Nepal to these days. You can see a variety of inscriptions, bricks, and other evidence of Lumbini being the birthplace of Buddha. The epicenter of attraction is the Maya Devi temple which is the spiritual heart of Lumbini where exactly lord Buddha was born. The Mayadevi Shrine is surrounded by several Stupas estimated at 31 Stupas. A large number of ancient stupas in the vicinity signifies the importance of Lumbini as the holiest site of the pilgrimage. These are the ruins of the Buddhist stupas from ancient times. Along its adjoining part are monasteries. As the religion itself was initiated in Nepal, Many countries that actively follow Buddhism have made monasteries in the name of their countries on the Lumbini premises as devotion to Lord Buddha and his principles. The Monastery design of each country differs from one country to another and it signifies the typical art and architecture used in building a monastery.
